How North is ‘Main North Road’?
We see roads with North, South, East or West in their names all the time – but do they actually travel in their stated direction overall?
As an experiment, each road in New Zealand that contained a direction in their name was ranked with a percentage of how well they aligned, with 100% for perfect alignment and 0% for completely the opposite. While it is worth noting some roads follow a North / South / East / West convention based on their geographic relative position to a place, others are less aligned than you would assume.
